Children’s Day Out Preschool

Children’s Day Out, a Christian preschool for children 2-5 years of age, is sponsored by First Lutheran Church to serve the Topeka Community. This educational program is licensed by the Kansas State Department of Health and Environment, accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children, and is governed by the Children’s Day Out Board, which functions under the First Lutheran Church Council.

Each child is nurtured and guided in an environment that values joy, sensitivity, playfulness, curiosity, inventiveness and wonder enabling his or her God-given potential to be reached.

Playing
Play is the language of children, it is their “work.” The CDO curriculum involves children at play in a challenging environment. They learn through exploring, experimenting, and using creative expression of ideas and feeling. In a relaxed and informal atmosphere, the emphasis is on the process of doing and creating, rather than the product.

Learning

Each class involves planned learning activities appropriate to the children’s age and development. These include block building, painting, story reading, dress up, and outdoor play. In addition, teachers utilize a variety of age-appropriate materials to assist the children’s development of language, perception, thinking and reasoning skills.

Caring

Children’s Day Out is concerned with the welfare of the total child, providing an environment conducive to healthy growth of the child’s physical, cognitive, emotional, social and spiritual areas of development. Each child is guided in developing prosocial behaviors, such as comforting, helping, cooperating, donating and sharing, by nurturing caregivers who, themselves, model these behaviors. The curriculum at CDO strives to nurture in each child a healthy self-concept and positive feelings of trust in God and others.
