Worship
at First Lutheran Church
Worship
services at First Lutheran Church are held in three separate
worship spaces. Most services are held in the 400-seat Worship
Center which was dedicated in 1966. It features an
11-rank, 3-manual Reuter organ built in 1962 and remodeled and
renovated in 2004.
Saturday
evening communion services are held in the Indoor Chapel. This
room, dedicated in 2000, is more intimate, seating about 40
worshipers. Saturday services
have spoken liturgy and no hymn
singing. However, once a month (usually the first Saturday)
organ music and singing are included.
On
summer Sundays when the weather permits, the 8:15 am Sunday
service takes place in the Outdoor Chapel on the south side
of the church building. Worshippers bring lawn chairs and blankets
and come dressed in casual summer attire. Music is provided
by an amplified keyboard. Holy Communion is part of each of
these services.
Throughout
the year special music and presentations enhance our worship.
The Senior Choir generally sings for the 11:00 service during
the winter months. In summertime, church members offer their
individual or small ensemble musical talents during that service.
Two bell choirs and two children's choirs also sing and play
for Sunday services.
Communion
Statement
We
believe that in the sacrament of Holy Communion, by the power
of God's Word and Holy Spirit, we receive the body and blood
of Jesus Christ, along with the bread and wine, for our forgiveness
and salvation. If you share in this belief and are a baptized
and communing member of First Lutheran or another congregation,
you are welcome to participate with us. Non-communing children
and adults are welcome to come forward to receive a blessing.
